About the Guild
Offering support, instruction, inspiration and networking to Christian writers
The San Diego Christian Writers Guild is one of the largest countywide Christian writers group in the United States. Founded in 1977, the Guild has established a solid reputation for helping both new and experienced writers to become published authors. Guild members range in age from 9 to 94, span all experience levels, and cover the entire spectrum of writing genres including novels, magazine articles, plays, poetry, devotionals, songs, children's books, and Vacation Bible School curricula.
The SDCWG welcomes individuals who see writing as an avenue for serving our Creator. Although most members are Christians, there is no requirement for members to write only for Christian markets.
Our community was founded by the Editor Emeritus of Decision Magazine, Dr. Sherwood Wirt.
The San Diego Christian Writers Guild hosts annual conferences and an awards event. However, monthly critique group meetings are the heart of our Guild. Meetings are offered throughout San Diego County, reaching northward to the southern edge of Riverside County.
While it is not necessary to join the Guild to participate in one of these groups, we sincerely hope you will recognize the benefits of membership. In addition to receiving a monthly copy of Your Royalty Note and participating in the Guild's educational and award programs, you will gain the satisfaction which comes from being part of one of the nation's preeminent Christian writing communities.
The purpose of the San Diego County Christian Writers Guild is to offer support, instruction, inspiration, and networking to Christians who write, or aspire to write, for publication.
Members of the Guild are committed to the advancement of the Kingdom of God through the use of the spoken and written word. The Guild recognizes God as the source of inspiration, the Giver and Developer of talent and the Provider of suitable and satisfying writing opportunities. Members are committed to write that which is consistent with God's character and His Holy Word. Writers are encouraged to use their varied talents to facilitate communication, bonding and encouragement within the Church, the community, and the world.
